Wherever you are in Florida, driving can be a pain. In February, a Forbes Advisor study found Tampa is the 10th worst U.S. city for drivers. And a study from Assurance IQ, an insurance shopping platform, ranked I-4 as the most dangerous interstate in the country. A study by Forbes Advisor found that Tampa is the 10th worst city in the U.S. for drivers while Jacksonville came in 14th place. And a separate study revealed Florida’s I-4 to be the most dangerous highway in the country and in the state. Earth Day is April 22 and Plan Hillsborough commemorated the day by volunteering with Port Tampa Bay's 3rd annual Great Port Clean Up with Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful. Alongside Planning Commission Chair Nigel Joseph, our staff teamed up with the Environmental Protection Commission of Hillsborough County along with hundreds of other dedicated community volunteers to remove trash and marine debris around the port, working together to keep Hillsborough County a safe and clean place to live, work, and play!

Back to the future? Hillsborough Planning Commission okays filling lagoon for townhomes

Think of the bay breeze wafting through Snell Isle's graceful curving streets, Davis Islanders' stunning views of Hillsborough Bay, or the man-made fingers that make up Venetian Isles Many of Tampa Bay's most scenic and pricey waterfront neighborhoods were built by pouring soil into the open water. Known as "dredge and fill," the practice largely ended in the 1970s as lawsuits and state and federal laws designed to protect marine environments made it difficult. Now, officials in Tampa may be turning back the clock.
